Néstor Becerra Yoma was born in Santiago, Chile, on September 15th, 1964. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from UNICAMP (Campinas State University), Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Edinburgh, UK, all in Electrical Engineering, in 1986, 1993, and 1998, respectively. In 1998 and 1999 he was a post-doctoral researcher at UNICAMP and a full-time professor at Mckenzie University in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Since 2000, he has been a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Chile, in Santiago, where he is currently lecturing on telecommunications and speech processing, and working on robust speech recognition/speaker verification, dialogue systems, and voice-over IP. At the University of Chile he has set up the Laboratory of Speech Processing and Transmission to study speech technology applications on the Internet and telephone lines. Professor Becerra Yoma is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and the International Speech Communication Association.

Dr. Ismael Soto, Departamento de IngenierÃa Eléctrica, Facultad de IngenierÃa, Universidad de Santiago.
Ismael Soto was born in Punta Arenas, Chile. He received an Engineering degree from the University of Santiago, the degree of Master of Engineering University Federico Santa MarÃa and the degree of PhD at the University of Staffordshire, UK. In 1982, 1990 and 1997, respectively. He has taught in the departments of Computer Science, Industrial Engineering and Electrical Engineering at the University of Santiago of Chile, where he is currently professor of telecommunications and signal processing. He has worked in wireless networking and security. Professor Ismael Soto has been National Director and member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and International Speech Communication Association. Patricio Rojo was born in Santiago, Chile. He did his undergraduate and M.Sc. studies at Universidad de Chile before traveling in 2001 to Cornell University to seek his Ph.D. degree in planetary sciences. His dissertation was about using transit spectroscopy with Ground-based telescopes for exoplanetary atmosphere characterization. On 2006, he returned to his Alma Matter, U. de Chile as member of the faculty at the Astronomy department, where he has been ever since. Chiefly among his research interest is Astrobiology and Ground-based Characterization of Extrasolar Planets.

Chemical Engineer, 1994-2000 (University of Chile), PhD in Geosciences, 2002-2004 (INPL, France), Research Fellow at The University of Manchester (UK) in the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Department of Materials and Corrosion Science (2006-2008), Research Fellow at Julius Kruttschnitt Minerals Research Centre (JKMRC) of The University of Queensland, 2008-2011 (Australia), with industrial experience in the use of surfactants and currently assistant professor at the Mining Department of the Universidad de Chile (2011-present).
Dra. Millaray Curilem, Departamento de IngenierÃa Eléctrica de la Universidad de la Frontera.
Millaray Curilem was born in Concepción, Chile, in 1967. She received the B.E. degree in electrical engineering from the Instituto Superior Politécnico, José Antonio EcheverrÃa, Cuba, in 1991, and the Dr. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brazil, in 2002. In 1994, she joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, of the Universidad de La Frontera, at Temuco, Chile, as a Lecturer, and in 2009 she became Associate Professor of this University. She performed a post-doctoral research in the Department of Informatics at the Universidad de Santiago de Chile (2007). Her current research interests include Computational Intelligence applied to pattern recognition of seismic signals from volcanoes, biomedical engineering and education. Dr. Curilem is a Fellow Member of the Computational Intelligence Society of the IEEE. She participated in the Organizing Committee of the Iberoamerican Congress on Pattern Recognition (CIARP 2011) and the Chilean Workshop on Pattern Recognition (CWPR 2010-2011). Dr. Curilem has many ISI, Scopus and SciELO publications and she participates in several national and institutional research projects as main or co-researcher.
Dr. Fernando Huenupán, Departamento de IngenierÃa Eléctrica de la Universidad de la Frontera.
Fernando Huenupán nació en Chaitén el año 1979. Se recibió de ingeniero Civil Electrónico de la Universidad de La Frontera en el 2004. Obtuvo su grado de Doctor en ingenierÃa eléctrica en la Universidad de Chile en el año 2010. Desde el año 2010 es profesor asistente del Departamento de IngenierÃa Eléctrica en la Universidad de La Frontera . Sus intereses de investigación son sistemas de múltiples clasificadores, tecnologÃas de voz y reconocimiento de patrones.
Dr. Miguel Maldonado, Facultad de Ciencias FÃsicas y Matemáticas, Departamento de IngenierÃa Metalúrgica, Universidad de Santiago de Chile.
Electronic Engineer, 1996-2003 and MSc/ Electrical Engineering, 2004-2005 from University of Concepcion, Chile. Development Engineer 2003-2006 position held at Industrial Support Company Ltda working on several technological projects for the mining industry, including robotics, sensor development and process control. PhD Electrical Engineering, 2007-2010, Laval University, Canada. Postdoctoral position 2010-2012 at the Department of Mining and Materials Engineering at McGill University, Canada. He is currently with the department of metallurgical engineering at Univerisity of Santiago as a research associate.

Walid Hussein – Postdoctoral researcher.
Walid born 1978, received his B.Sc. and M. Sc. With honour Grade in Aerospace Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt in 2000 and 2005; respectively. During this period, he worked as research assistant in the Egyptian Civil Aviation Academy & German University in Cairo. Between 2007 and 2009, he worked in Department of Life Science, University of Hohenheim, Germany. Afterwards he worked as Research Associate at Center of Life Science Engineering, Technische Universität München, Germany, where he obtained his Ph. D. in 2013. Since October 2013, he is a post doctor in the signal processing laboratory (LPTV). His research interests are in the area of signal and image processing, machine learning, and pattern recognition with more than 30 publications in peer reviewed journals and international conferences.
M. Salman Khan -Â Postdoctoral researcher.
Salman received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the George Washington University, Washington, D.C., USA, and Loughborough University, England, UK, in 2010 and 2013, respectively. He has conducted research on audio-visual sound source separation, time-frequency masking, and dereverberation, and has contributed in multiple international journals and conferences. His current research focuses on applying signal processing techniques to multiple application areas including speech processing, astronomy, volcanology, and mining.

Vanessa Quintero L. – Doctoral student in Electrical Engineering.
Vanessa received her Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering degree from Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá, Panamá, in 2007. Since then, she has been developing academic activities on the Electrical Engineering Faculty in Panama. Her research interests include speech recognition. At the start of 2014, he joined the Laboratory of Speech Processing and Transmission (LPTV) to follow his doctoral studies in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Chile.
VÃctor Poblete R. – Doctoral student in Electrical Engineering.
VÃctor received the title of Acoustic Engineer and Master’s Degree in Physics at the Universidad Austral de Chile, Valdivia, Chile, in 1993 and 2001, respectively. From 1993 to date he has been a professor at the Institute of Acoustics of the Universidad Austral de Chile. Since 2010, he has had leave from the Universidad Austral de Chile to study for his PhD in Electrical Engineering at the University of Chile. In the LPTV, as a doctoral student, he has worked on speaker verification and speech processing based on the peripheral hearing system.

José received his title of Civil Acoustic Engineer, was licensed in Engineering Sciences, and, most recently, his Master’s Degree in Acoustics and Vibrations from the Universidad Austral de Chile in 2012. Since then he has developed engineering projects in the areas of control and analysis of vibrations, acoustic design of architectural spaces, and control of environmental noise. At the start of 2014, he joined the Laboratory of Speech Processing and Transmission (LPTV) to follow his doctoral studies in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Chile. His research area is speaker verification and automatic speech recognition.

Rodrigo Mahu S. – Student, thesis writer, and research assistant.
Rodrigo is a student in electrical engineering at the University of Chile. He joined the Speech Processing and Transmission Laboratory (LPTV) in May, 2013, where he is currently carrying out research in signal processing for astronomy. He has co-authored a journal paper in that field. His interests include signal processing, astronomy, and automatic control.

Josué is an electrical engineering student at University of Chile. He joined the Speech Processing and Transmission Laboratory (LPTV) in March, 2014 as thesis student and research assistant. He is co-author of one conference paper. His interests include signal processing and telecommunication systems.
